I’ve been living on an island the past few days. Not some wonderful sun-drenched, sandy sanctuary, but a neighborhood surrounded by water in every direction. If you’ve watched any news channels lately, you probably heard about the “500 yr” flood event Houston, TX and the surrounding communities experienced this week. I live in the outer area where the rain seemed to stall the longest, and I have watched as all the creeks and bayous have long surpassed their tipping points to close off roads, flood entire neighborhoods and swallow farmland and everything in its path. Our newly constructed neighborhood was practically an anomaly to have come out of the storm without a single flooded street or home, but all around us we’ve seen nothing but murky water and devastation. As I sit here typing with another rain storm tapping at the window, my heart goes out to all those that I know are saying, “please no more rain.” I thank God for a dry mattress to sleep on and electricity to keep my life moving along with a fairly normal routine. With the roads finally open to at least get the kids to their school today, I’ll take this time to clean out closets and pack up anything I can spare to donate to those that have lost everything. I just received an alert that the town of Wharton has issued a mandatory evacuation for most of it’s residents as the Colorado River is about to exceed it’s limits…4 days after the rain. So many people’s lives in shambles, and yet not a single reported incident of looting or violence anywhere. Just a community of people quietly helping their friends, neighbors and in many cases complete strangers however they can. So much to be thankful for even in times like this.
Ok.. regroup. On to lighter topics now. It’s time to catch up with a Make and Mingle Linkup Party. First though, let’s take a look a some of my favorite links from last time:
Pop Shop America shared some Free Adult Coloring Book pages for all those doodlers out there. Can I just tell you how much I ADORE the fact that these pages have SUCCULENTS on them? I’ve already printed them – time to raid my daughter’s art supplies.
Next, I want to share a post about something I feel pretty passionate about and that’s learning all you can about blogging through other bloggers experiences. The Tightwad Teacher (love the name) shared some insight with her post “What I Learned in the First 3 Months of Blogging.” There’s just something so valuable about hearing honest feedback from a real person and not some online class or blogging manual that’s making money off telling you, “you can do it.” Give it a good read, and take notes…
If you were one of today’s features, please grab my Make and Mingle linkup feature button below and feel free to add it to your post or blog!
Featured bloggers can save a copy of the above image, upload it to your page, and link it back to the following:
Now then… this week’s new Linkup Party topic is…
What have you done lately to bring more color into your home, your look, your life? (It’s not required that you stick to the topic, but it’s a starting place if you’re not sure what to share 🙂
Thanks for stopping in to see today’s featured post and now….let’s get the next linkup party started!
